As a kid growing up in Britain, New York was the epitome of glamour for me. I used to watch an American cop show called Cagney and Lacy. I fantasized about living and working in New York when I grew up just like the female police officers in that show. I told my American husband about this childhood fantasy. He must have been listening because he took me on a New York City vacation for our honeymoon.
I am by no means the only person who had childhood dreams of New York City. People all over the world want to see it. That’s why New York has an abundance of visitors every year. Millions of people all over the world have longed to visit the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building. The New York skyline and Times Square are also renowned internationally.
Because it’s such a popular tourist destination, finding cheap hotels in New York is almost impossible. Your best hope is to find hotels that are less expensive than others, comparatively speaking. If you want to save money on your New York City vacation, you can do so in one of three ways. The first way to save cash is to book your hotel months in advance. The second method of saving a few dollars is to look for last minute vacation deals, but this is only viable if you don’t mind traveling at very short notice. Your third option is to book a hotel on the New Jersey side of the Hudson river, which is what my husband and I did when we visited. We stayed at the Sheraton and took a ferry across the Hudson each day to get into Manhattan.
