It's a great time to be a foreign tourist in New York city. Because of the weak dollar, tourists can see the New York skyline, including the Empire State Building, the Waldorf Astoria hotel, ride the New York subway, and otherwise enjoy a bargain New York vacation. According to a December 2nd article printed in The New York Times, one of the big draws this year is bargain shopping, being able to pick up luxury goods for cheap in New York, "Several overseas airlines and charter-flight operators have been specifically promoting New York City as a Christmas shopping Mecca, luring hordes of bargain hunters, especially from Britain, where tourism to the United States has otherwise been lagging for years." The dollar's decline may be bad news for the American economy in general, but it's meant the cheery ring of cash registers for hordes of New York retailers, especially those who sell luxury goods that are much more expensive in Europe. Right now, it's not unusual for foreign tourists to visit the New York skyline for short periods, just so they can shopping and snap up some bargains.
